published: October 01 2008
Noreen, Bonnie Julia Brown, age 79, of Knoxville and raised in Oliver Springs, went home to be with God, Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at Fort Sanders Park West Hospital. Ms. Noreen was a member of West Park Baptist Church. She was a devoted and loyal mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister and aunt, and her family was her life. She loved God, her family, her dogs, holidays, her neighbors, watching UT football and basketball, politics, CNN, Fox News, the lake, fishing, her beautiful home, dancing, cooking (she was a great cook), her garden and her flowers. Ms. Noreen was never afraid of hard work, and 2 jobs she was most proud of (outside of her home) were being secretary for the Knox Journal Newspaper and a Holiday Inn Innkeeper. She was the second woman in the whole country to achieve the status of Innkeeper of the original Holiday Inn parent company, having begun there as a switchboard operator. Predeceased by her: son, Charles Edward (Eddie) Beam, Jr.; husband, Henry A. Noreen; parents, Elijah Asher and Sally Maude Brown; brothers, Sam Wright Brown, who was lost in WWII, and Joseph Houston Brown. Survivors include her: daughter and son-in-law, Sally (Beam) and Thomas L. Cohen; grandchildren. Lindy Anne Cohen, Dustin Cody Beam and Kelley Leigh Beam; sister, Margaret Fay Brown Knaffl; several nieces and nephews; many friends; and her beloved best friend, her dog, Lady. We would like to thank special friends, Brett, Lisa, and Kaitlyn Stewart, and Connie Green as well as Fort Sanders Park West Hospital staff for the kindness and compassionate care they gave mother and our family. The family will receive friends in Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel, Friday, 4:30-7:00pm, followed by a 7pm funeral service officiated by Chaplain Bob Winston. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 12:45pm Saturday, for a 1pm graveside service in Lynnhurst Cemetery. Tom Cohen, Dustin Beam, Asher Knaffl, Sam Knaffl, Brett Stewart, and David Ballenger will serve as pallbearers. You are invited to share your thoughts and memories of Bonnie at her guestbook and memorial website at www.MeM.com. Arrangements entrusted to Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 2300 W. Adair Dr. 865-689-8888. www.lynnhurstchapel.com
