Mary Lucy ''Polly'' Tarwater

Mary Lucy “Polly” Hughes Tarwater, age 84 of Sevierville, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2008. Polly was born August 16, 1923 in Rochelle, Georgia. She graduated from Miami High School in Miami, Florida and attended Florida State University. She married Jack C. Tarwater of Sevierville on February 14, 1942. Mrs. Tarwater began her civil service career in 1943 and ultimately retired from the Great Smoky Mountain National Park Service in 1986, where she was assigned to Park Headquarters. She loved tending to her yard and flowers and was a tireless worker on behalf of her family. Survivors: Husband of almost 66 years: Jack Tarwater Son and daughter-in-law: Gary and Donna Tarwater Daughter: Kathy Hammer Grandchildren: Jason Tarwater and wife Stacy, Jennifer MacDonald, and Jacqueline Hammer Great-grandchildren: Courtney Feliz, Fallon Tarwater, Levi Tarwater, Jackson Tarwater and Jade MacDonald Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Funeral service 7 PM Thursday in the Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Ely officiating. Family and friends will meet 12 noon Friday in Tarwater Cemetery for interment.
