Fred W. Curtis, age 83 of Sevierville, passed away at home on Wednesday, June 6, 2007, after a valiant battle against cancer. Born in Crivitz, Wisconsin, Fred served in the Navy during World War II. Fred and Stephanie discovered the Pigeon Forge area on their honeymoon in 1952 and made many trips from their home in Darien, Illinois, before relocating in 1986. His favorite hobbies included gardening, bird-watching, and woodworking. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Nettie, brothers Raymond, Roy, and Everett, and sister Bessie. He is survived by his wife Stephanie, with whom he was planning on celebrating 55 years of marriage on this June 21st; daughters Debra Peterson, Elizabeth Curtis, and Stephanie Thompson, who were all with their mother at his bedside; loving granddaughter Samantha Peterson; brother Wilbur Curtis; sister Mary Schroeder; sister-in-law Mildred Juracek; and a great multitude of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, Development Office, P.O. Box 15010, Knoxville, TN, 37901-5010. Funeral service 3 PM Sunday in the Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Father Jay Flaherty officiating. Interment will follow in Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens with military honors.
