Dr. Frank Barber Galyon Jr.

Services for Dr. Frank Barber Galyon Jr. will be held, March 24, 2007, at 02:00 PM at the following locations: Highland Memorial Parks 5315 Kingston Pike Knoxville, TN 37919 (865) 588-0567 Dr. Frank Barber Galyon, Jr. passed away at home on Tuesday, February 20, 2007. He was born September 25, 1923 in Knoxville, Tennessee to Frank B. and Amy Staub Galyon. He was preceded in death by wife; Mildred Peck Galyon, his parents and his sister; Pauline Staub Galyon Walker. Frank was a retired ophthalmologist who loved attending the symphony, playing bridge and gardening. He completed his B.S. degree at UT in 1950 continued and received an M.D. from U.T. in 1951. After finishing his education at U.T. he attended the University of Michigan and completed a M.S. in Ophthalmology in 1956. He operated a private Ophthalmology practice in downtown Knoxville for many years until his retirement. After Frank retired he spent many years hybridizing magnolias, daylilies, iris, camellias and daffodils. He was an active member of many gardening organizations and loved to attend the society meetings. Dr. Galyon is survived by nieces Amy Warren (Mack) of Columbia, South Carolina, Hope Wood of Columbia, Celia Dailey of Charleston, South Carolina and nephew John Albert Walker (Mary) also of Columbia. Frank will be missed and fondly remembered by many including his friend and devoted caregiver, Mike Hewitt. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, March 24, 2007 at 2p.m. in the Chapel of Highland Memorial Funeral Home (Bearden). A committal service will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be to the Garden Club of Knoxville. Highland Memorial Park, Funerals and Cremations (Bearden) is honored to be serving the family of Dr. Galyon.
