Edith Emily Combs Sims

Sims, Edith Emily Combs ?age 79, of South Knoxville, passed away Friday, February 16, 2007 at Ft. Sanders Hospital. Member and former deacon of Graystone Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of Young High School Class of 1945. Edith was a former volunteer at the University of Tennessee Medical Center and East Tennessee Children?s Hospital Auxiliary. She was an avid UT sports fan and loved to travel. Preceded in death by parents, Herbert Combs and Lois Sherrod Combs and brother, Herbert C. Combs, Jr. Survivors include husband of 59 years, Albert Herman Sims; daughter, Elizabeth Thomas of Knoxville; daughter and son-in-law, Marta and Rick Ray of Pensacola Beach, Florida; son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Marsha Sims of Knoxville; grandchildren, Lexie and husband, Jody Griffin of Knoxville, Channa and husband, Justin Brillante of Birmingham, Alabama, Morgan Ray of Gulf Breeze, Florida, Egan Ray of Birmingham, Alabama; great-grandchildren, Bay, Addie and Asher Griffin; sister-in-law, Betty Gillespie Combs; special friend and caregiver, Tabby Nolan. Funeral service will be held 2 PM Monday at Graystone Presbyterian Church, Rev. Larry Hitchens officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Graystone Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends from 12 Noon-1:45 PM Monday in the fellowship hall of Graystone Presbyterian Church. Arrangements by Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.
