Alberta G. Parsons

Alberta G. Parsons passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2007, at Asbury Health Center in Maryville, TN. Mrs. Parsons was born in Sevier County, Tennessee. She was educated at Knoxville Business College as a secretary and pursued this vocation for several years. After finishing business college, she married Leonard Parsons of Knoxville, TN, and they moved to St. Petersburg, FL where he passed away in 1970. She lived an active life in St. Petersburg for 50 years. She was President of the Women’s Chamber of Commerce, President of the Interlock Club, member of St. Petersburg Woman’s Club, Matron of Eastern Star, Eureka Chapter #5, and President of her Sunday school class at Christ United Methodist Church. She loved small animals. She owned and operated a pet shop for many years. In 1999, she moved back to Sevierville and lived in Markhill Village Retirement Center for six years. She then moved to Asbury Place in Maryville in 2006. After months of declining health, she moved to Health Center at Asbury Place. On August 1, she moved to her Heavenly Home. She leaves relatives, family, and friends who loved her much: three sisters, Gladys Tallent of Maryville, Dr. Grace Grissom of Nashville, and Maude Glasscock of Asheville, NC, and one brother Dr. Marvin B. Gass, Jr. and wife Ann of Maryville. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Sevierville. She lived a full productive Christian life. She fought a good fight; she kept the faith and finished her course. To God be the glory, good things she has done. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Asbury Place at Maryville, 2648 Sevierville Road, Maryville, TN 37804, or the Marvin B. Gass Scholarship Fund, Tennessee Wesleyan College, P.O. Box 40, Athens, TN 37371-0040. Funeral service 2 PM Saturday in the Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with The Reverend Ted Baker, former pastor of First United Methodist Church, Sevierville and The Reverend Charles Harrison, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Zion Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1-2 PM Saturday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. (www.atchleyfuneralhome.com)
