Ruth I. (Granny) Setzer

Setzer, Ruth I. (Granny) ?age 90, of South Knoxville, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 16, 2006. She was a dedicated and loving wife and mother. She was a lifelong member of Enon Baptist Church in Jonesboro, Tennessee. Preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Spurling; husband, A.L. Setzer; sons, Harold and Sam; and daughter, Janet. Survived by brother, Bill Spurling; sisters, Mildred Izard, Ila Mae Stokes and Blanche Spurling; children, Kenneth Setzer, Larry Setzer and wife, Geraldine, Carl Setzer and wife, Brenda Faye, Leonard Setzer and wife, Charlotte, Avis Setzer, all of Knoxville, Dallas Setzer of St. Louis, Missouri, Carolyn Tipton and husband, Gene of Sardis, Mississippi, Lucy Burchfield and husband, Charles of Seymour, Fran Sanzo and husband, Richard of Seymour and Brenda Kay Setzer of Alcoa. She was the loving grandmother of 20; great-grandmother of 22; and great-great grandmother of 3. The family would like to thank sincerely Dr. Clay Stalcup for his extraordinary compassionate care that went over and beyond the call of duty. Also, the family would like to thank U.T. Family Physicians and their part in her care. We would also like to thank Priority Home Health. Special recognition to her dedicated home nurses, Roxane Bowman, Cindy Keller, Connie Perkins, Darla Davis, Angie Knott and Lisa Pickett who showed the utmost love and compassion for our mother. Special thanks to all the love and prayers from a host of neighbors, family and friends. Family and friends will meet Friday, May 19th at Mt. Olive Cemetery for a 12 Noon graveside service with Rev. Deron Cobb officiating. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 2500 Old Maryville Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee 37920.
