Herbert C. Combs

Combs, Jr., Herbert C. ?age 80, of South Knoxville, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2006. Herbert was the son of the late Herbert Combs, Sr. and Lois Sherrod Combs. He was a veteran of World War II serving as an airplane engine and electrical mechanic in the United States Army Air Force. Herbert retired from Firestone and later VIC Industrial. Member of Lake Forest Presbyterian Church. Survivors include wife of 57 years, Betty Gillespie Combs; son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Teresa Terry Combs; grandchildren, Jessica Caudle and husband, Rob and Benjamin Combs and wife, Margaret, all of Maryland; sister, Edith Sims and husband, Herman of Knoxville; aunt, Bonita Lorah and husband, Richard of Kingsport; sisters-in-law, Crissie Gillespie and Ruth Heintz of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Wednesday in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway, with funeral service to follow at 7 PM, Rev. Jean Richardson officiating. Family and friends will meet at Woodlawn Cemetery on Thursday for 11 AM interment service. Memorials may be made to the Knoxville Salvation Army, P.O.
