Troy F. Carr, age 79, of the Pigeon Forge and Sevierville, TN areas, died Monday, June 26, 2006 at Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee in Knoxville, TN. He was a member of the Sevierville Church of Christ. A native of Tupelo, MS, Troy had lived in the Sevier County area since 1974. He was the son of Jeff and Mary Carr of Lee County, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, E.D. Carr. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. His work career spanned over 61 years with 40 years in the National Park Service. His National Park Service, which began in Tupelo, MS at the Natchez Trace Parkway, also included duties in Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Virgin Islands, Shiloh National Park, Blue Ridge Parkway, Acadia National Park, Everglades National Park, Ozark National Park and Cape Hatteras. Eleven of those years (1974-1985) were at the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Following his retirement from the National Park Service, he worked 21 enjoyable years (1985-2006) with Blalock Construction Company, retiring in March of this year. Civic service included 27 years on the Pigeon Forge Planning Commission (1978-2005), as Chairman. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lorene Taylor Carr; special nephew and niece, Steve and Patti Nanney of Houston, TX; brothers, Thomas J. Carr of Mooreville, MS, Hoyle Carr of Columbia, SC, Bobby Carr of Saltillo, MS; brother and sisters-in-law, Todd and Christine Nanney of Tupelo, MS, Patsy Carr of Mooreville, MS, Genieve Guntharp of Tupelo, MS; niece and nephew, Diana and Tommy Wallace of Mooreville, MS and several other nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sevierville Church of Christ, P.O. Box 4125, Sevierville, Tennessee, 37864 or your preferred charity in Mr. Carr’s memory. Funeral service 11 AM Thursday at Sevierville Church of Christ, 208 Hicks Drive, Sevierville, with Minister John Daniels officiating. Entombment will follow in Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens.
