HARRIS, LAWRENCE EDWARD (L.E.), age 79, of Fountain City, joined the angels on his final journey home after a two year illness to join preceding family members, parents, Jesse Cleveland and Nellie Triplett Harris; brothers, George, Reese, Elvin, Ralph (Red) and Jack C. Harris; sisters, Stella Crutchfield and Maudine Clark. Lawrence was born on December 3, 1926 in Jasper, TN. He graduated from the Nashville Cantrell School of Barbering and worked for several years in the field before serving in Germany during World War II. He later entered the installment sales field and began his own company, C & W Sales Company for 44 years and is the former owner of Fairview Apartments. He was a member of Chilhowee Hills Baptist Church and Fountain City Sportsman?s Club and spent most weekends on Norris Lake as an avid skier, boatman and his pleasure time was spent on his houseboat for over 40 years. He took great pride in his vegetable garden each summer. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Stella Dukes Harris and two adoring daughters, Marketta Harris Smiddy and husband, Robert of Nashville, TN and Sherry Harris Hopson of Houston, TX. He was so proud of his four grandchildren, Erica Smiddy Queen and husband, Charles of Lawrenceville, GA, Harrison Tyler Smiddy of Charlotte, NC, Cpl. Adam C. Hopson USMC of Camp Lejeune, NC, Jesse Lee Hopson of Houston, TX; and his special buddy, great-grandson, James ?Connor? McDaniel. He is also survived by sisters, Glenora White of Roane County, Sarah Saylors and brother, Charles R. Harris of Marion County. The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Udit Chaudhuri for his constant care and attention and a very special heartfelt thanks to his ?girls?, the caretakers who have faithfully and compassionately taken care of him for the past 18 months, his niece, Charlotte, Sally, Janey, Patty, Angye and Krista. He could never have had the quality of life without these very special women. Thank you, Jerry, we could have never made our Dad as happy and content without your undying attention, love, concern, and help. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Monday at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel with the service to follow at 8 P.M. with Rev. Chuck Morris officiating. Family and friends will meet at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday and go in procession to Lynnhurst Cemetery for interment service at 11 A.M. Rev. Morris and Chaplain Ken Thornton officiating. Pallbearers will be immediate family members and Eddie Dukes and Jerry Cagley. Honorary pallbearers are Jack Long, Sr., Jay Nelson, Everett Parker, Harold Smith, Jack Long, Jr. and Leslie (Big John) Crowder.
