Dorothy Barbra

Barbra, Dorothy Lee Miller ?age 70, of South Knoxville, died on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at St. Mary?s Medical Center after an extended illness. She was a member of Hendron?s United Methodist Church. Dorothy retired from Knox County Schools in the summer of 2005 having served as a special education teaching assistant working in special needs classrooms since 1982. She worked at Young Development Center, Fort Sanders Educational Development Center, South Doyle High School, West High School, Carter High School and Central High School. She was an alumnus of the 1954 class of Young High School. Dorothy was an avid bird watcher, photographer, reader, artist, and an accomplished landscape artist. Dorothy was interested in her community and followed the Lady Vols, attended local quilt shows and other special events in the area, and enjoyed spending time with her friends. She loved nature. Dorothy was the guiding force of her family. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother. Preceded in death by parents, James O. and Agnes Green Miller; grandparents, J.D. Miller, Sr., Jenny Miller, Opal Miller, W.W. and Nora Green. Loving and devoted husband of 51 years of marriage, Luther Eugene Barbra; daughters, Gina Renee Barbra and friend, Nancy Mohrlyn, Tracy Lee Barbra, Shelley and husband, Douglas; three siblings who she lovingly raised as her children, James Mitchell Miller and wife, Becky, Pamela Jane Miller-McRae and husband, Dwayne, Janice Kay Miller Bhatia and husband, Yusuf; grandchildren, Daisy and David Ehrenshaft, Joshua Lee Miller, Courtney Seals Curtis and husband, James, Sarah Elizabeth Miller and husband, Gabe Dalton, Elias Miller, Moriah McRae, Alexander Bhatia, Jenab Bhatia; great-grandchildren, Isaiah Tinker, Tiffani and Trey Curtis, Abigail Lee Dalton; sister, Shirley Dean Miller; aunts, Cina Miller Reid, Elizabeth ?Lib? Miller, Irene Hood Miller. Dorothy is also survived by her mother-in-law, Edna Hawn Barbra; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Bettie Stansberry and their children, Janie Lanham and Janelle and Jennifer, Ricky and Patty Stansberry, Bill and Roseanne Barbra and their children, Chris, Mike, Amanda, Laura and little Mike Barbra. She also leaves many cousins and extended family and special lifelong friends, Patsy Todd, Sue Ballard, Sheila Albert and Martha Broughton. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Doctors, Nurses, CNA?S, OT-PT, Respiratory caregivers at St. Mary?s Medical Center for their care and concern during Dorothy?s illness. Funeral service 2:00 PM Saturday, Berry Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Cynthia Pennington and Rev. Dr. Charles Burnett officiating. Interment will follow at Highland South Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.
