Danny Boyd Smith

Danny Boyd Smith, age 61 of Seymour, TN, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ who he was faithful to and served in many ways since he was a young child, on Wednesday January 11, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Knoxville and graduated from East High School, where he was Senior Class President, in 1962. He attended the University of Tennessee on a track scholarship where he broke the record in the 440 Run and the Field Relay in the SEC Championship in 1963 and 1964. He broke the school record in the Mile Relay in 1964. He remained a loyal and faithful “Vols” fan attending every home game until his health prevented it. He went into the United States Army where he attended Officer’s Candidate School and served as a company commander at Ft. Knox as a 1st Lieutenant. He announced the football games at Seymour High School from 1986-1993 and he was known as “The Voice of the Eagles.” He was a member of the Sevier Heights Baptist Church since 1991 where he enjoyed his participation each year in the Living Christmas Tree, as well as other dramas, narrations and recitations. He was in sales his entire work life until January 2004 when he and his son bought a business, High Mountain Vac, in Sevier County and worked it together. Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Boyd and Reva Bowers Smith, of Knoxville. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Debbie; their son, Derek Boyd Smith; their daughter, DeeDee and her husband Richard Allen; their grandsons Cody and Austin Allen; his sister Darla and her husband Dale Thomas of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; three sisters-in-law: Dorothy Yeargin, West Palm Beach, FL, Diane Brownell, Oviedo, FL and Donna Terrell, Lake Worth, FL; many loving nephews, nieces, cousins and two uncles, John K. Bowers, Knoxville, TN and Sanders Bowers of Palm Beach Gardens, FL. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Baptist Hospice P.O. Box 22, Knoxville, TN 37901. Funeral service 4PM Saturday January 14, 2006 at Sevier Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Hollie Miller officiating. The family will receive guests immediately following the service.
