Charles W. Butler

Charles Whittle Butler, of Sevierville, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2005. Charles graduated from Lincoln Memorial University. In addition to his service to higher education, he retired from the United States Army Reserve with the rank of Major, having completed 27 years of service, including service during World War II. Charles served as Director of Physical Plant at the University of South Florida in Tampa and prior to that served at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He also served as a board member and President of APPA, serving 17 years as an active member and 15 years as a member Emeritus. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sevierville. He was preceded in death by his parents Shirley and Stella McMahan Butler; brother Harold Butler and first wife Josephine Butler. Survivors: Devoted wife of twenty-five years: Dorothy Burchfield Butler Sons: Charles W. Butler and wife Terry of Ft. Collins, Colorado; David M. Butler and wife April of Lenoir City, TN; Richard W. Butler and Tammie Carter of Cleveland, TN Daughter: Cynthia Lytle and husband John of Tuscon, Arizona Sister: Lois Butler Ballard Mrs. Butler’s children: Barbara B. Ayers and husband Wayne, Elizabeth B. Corker and husband Bob, John R. Burchfield and wife Brenda, James W. Burchfield and wife Debra Ten grandchildren Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of First United Methodist Church, 214 Cedar Street, Sevierville, TN, 37862. Funeral service 7 PM Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Sevierville. Reverend Bobby Ely and Reverend H.B. Hauk will officiate. Family and friends will meet 10 AM Friday in Pigeon Forge Methodist Cemetery for interment. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Thursday at First United Methodist Church.
