Gertrude Gann Ward

Gertrude Gann Ward, age 85 of Sevierville, died Friday, May 13, 2005. Gertrude lived to have five generations and was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was retired from Cherokee Textile Mills. She attended New Hope Church of God and loved the T.V. Ministry of First Baptist Church in Sevierville. She was preceded in death by her father and mother D.C. and Lydia (Widner) Gann, husband Willie Bates Ward and daughter Betty Atchley Ballew, sisters Emily Gann, Rosabelle Turner, Edith Connatser, a half sister Maggie Loveday, a half brother Pete Gann, sons-in-law, Bud Atchley, Kenneth Ballew, Sr., special friend and neighbor Charles E. Hodges. Survivors: Loving daughter and caregiver: Edna Johnson Grandchildren: Cindy Lindsey and husband Dennis of Lenoir City, Ricky B. Atchley and wife Leslie of Sevierville, Glenn Michael Atchley and wife Theresa of Mississippi, Arley Johnson, Jr., Peni Cooper, and Tammy Atchley all of Sevierville Great-grandchildren: Keely Jennings and husband Jason of Knoxville, Josh Lindsey and wife Brandi of Lebanon, Amanda Atchley and Michael B. Atchley of Mississippi, Jessica Cooper of Sevierville Great-great-grandchildren: Kirsten Jennings and Jacey Kate Jennings of Knoxville Gertrude was a special Maw to Patsy and Houston Hodges, Chris and Hilary Ott Sisters: Grace Clark Ward, Bonnie Kate Tarwater of Sevierville, Cora Matthews of Greenback, Billie Ruth Scheuneman of Sevierville Many beloved nieces and nephews whom she adored Special friends/neighbors: Glenn and Vera Lethco, Jack and Peggy Duggan, Joy and Lola Maples, Debbie Hurst, Arley Johnson, Sr., Kaleb Townsend and Lindy McClure Special thanks to Dr. Steven Hall and staff, Covenant Hospice and Rev. Ernie Coleman In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope Church of God, Building Fund or to the First Baptist Church, Sevierville Building Fund or TV Ministry. Funeral service 5 PM Sunday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Pastor Melvin Lonas and great-grandson Rev. Josh Lindsey officiating. Eulogy delivered by granddaughter Cindy Lindsey. Interment 10 AM Monday in Middle Creek Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be: Ricky B., Mike and Michael Atchley, Arley Johnson, Jr., Dennis and Josh Lindsey, Jason Jennings, and Houston Hodges.
