Robert Earl Compton

Compton, Robert Earl ?age 89, of Knoxville, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 21, 2005 at Baptist Hospital. He was a member of Meridian Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school for 60 years and served as a deacon since 1944. Mr. Compton was retired from Alcoa and was a 50+-year member of Masters Lodge 244 F&AM.; Preceded in death by parents, John and Ida Laughtery; wife, Josie Johnson Compton and brother, Clyde Compton. He is survived by son, Robert (Bobby) Compton and wife, Linda; grandchildren, Darrel and wife, Lori Compton, Lorie and husband, David Rheinecker; great-grandchildren, Bailee and Rylie Compton, Dane and Cole Rheinecker; brother, Hollis and wife, Dorothy Compton; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Calvin Neely, Marie and Delmar Siela; J.L. and Elsie Johnson; several loving nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Judy and Mildred Solomon, Brenda, Ronnie and family, Dr. Jeff Swilley and Rev. Dana Fachman for their care and concern during Earl?s latter years. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Tuesday in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway, with funeral service to follow at 8 PM, Rev. Dana Fachman officiating. Family and friends will meet at Meridian Cemetery on Wednesday for 11 AM interment services. Honorary pallbearers will be members of his Sunday school and deacons of Meridian Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Meridian Baptist Church, 6513 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, Tennessee 37920.
