Fred Thompson

THOMPSON, FRED W., age 71 went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, June 1, 2005. He was member of the Sheperd of the Hills Baptist Church. Mr. Thompson joined the Army on 1949 and served with the 82nd Airborne, 1st Cavalry, 10th Mountain 2nd Armored Division, 7th Infantry, 1st Infantry and 17th Air Cavalry. Mr. Thompson served three tours of duty in Vietnam during the Vietnam War and saw extensive action. During his 27 years of service in the army, Mr. Thompson was awarded many services decorations, among them, the Bronze star and the CIB, Combat Infantry Badge. Mr. Thompson retired from the Army in 1976, with the rank of First Sergeant, after retiring, he returned to Knoxville and worked 18 years for Colonial Freight systems until he went into business for himself as owner of the Cumberland Estates Cleaners, 15 years. Preceded in death by father James B. Thompson Sr., mother Rillie Z. Thompson, brothers; JB Jr., Andrew J., Daniel B., Louis F., and Donald M. Thompson. Survivors include his wife Mi Soon Thompson; daughter and son-in-law Ginger and Erik Strack, daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Robert Dial, son and daughter-n-law Jack and Grace Thompson; son, Douglas Thompson; granddaughter, Sarah Thompson; brother and sister-in-law Joe L. and Inge Thompson; brother and sister-in-law Charlie J and Linda Thompson; sister-in-law Gladys Thompson; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be on Saturday at 2:00 PM at Lynnhurst with Rev. Gale Lyon and Pastor Choi officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
