Leona Bell

Bell, Leona L., age 89, of Jefferson City, formerly of Knox County, passed away on Friday August 26, 2005 at Life Care of Jefferson City. She was born April 21, 1916 in Knox County. Member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church. Preceded in death by husband, Paul A. Bell; infant grandson, Patrick Bell; parents, Bruce and Hallie Merriman; brothers, James O. and Roy Merriman. Survivors include daughter, Anna B. Zachary and husband Jack of Rutledge; sons, Leon Bell and wife Jewel of Greeneville; Paul Bell and wife Alexis, and Gordon Bell of Knoxville; grandchildren, Rodney Bell and wife Emily of Greeneville, Bradley Bell of Louisville, KY, Kim Steele and husband George of Johnson City, Mia Bell of Knoxville, Deeanna Garner of Knoxville, Tammy Bearden and husband Ron of Knoxville; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Mabel McLemore of Knoxville, Gladys Sliger of Cleveland, TN; brothers, Rev. George Merriman and Gene Merriman both of Texas; sister-in-law, Madge Edmondson of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews; special friends at Douglas Residence Apartments. Special thanks to the staff at Life Care and Jefferson Memorial Hospital (especially therapist Bill Ferguson). The family will receive friends from 5 ? 8 PM Monday with the Funeral Service at 8 PM in the Chapel with Rev. Bruce Martin and Rev. George Merriman officiating. Family and friends will meet at Asbury Cemetery for Graveside Services at 9:30 AM Tuesday. Pallbearers are Ron Bearden, Joe McLemore, Charles Long, Jim Peters, Perry Snyder, and Jackie Pickle. Honorary pallbearers are grandsons and Herb McCustin, Bruce Kennedy, Ed Lyke, Edward and Wayne Branch, Gilbert Ruggles, Robert Murphy, Harold Nichols, Tom, Herschel and Carl Lusby, and Jack Brogden.
