Your Memories of Floy Steiner Bell
Some of my best memories of Gatlinburg involve sitting with Floy Bell-Steiner and listening to her stories about the beautiful mountains, hiking the trails and hearing her poetry. I remember surprising her on one trip there with a group of kids by having the group sing her poem about Wa-Floy Retreat - "From Wa-Floy comes a greeting, where the mountains clothed in pine . . ." which I had set to music and still remember to this day. Over the years, Ms. Bell and I spent many, many hours sitting and talking together, laughing and enjoying getting lost in our conversation. She had very strong feelings about what Wa-Floy Retreat should be not only while she was there running things, but also after. I hope that those of her family who now run the retreat honor the reasons she and her husband started the retreat in the first place. She was certainly the Saint of the Smoky Mountains!
