Melvin T. Munn

Mr. Melvin T. Munn, age 70, of Sevierville, TN, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2004, following a period of declining health. Mr. Munn, a graduate of the FBI Academy, Quantico, VA, was a retired Captain with the Wake County Sheriff’s Department, Raleigh, NC. He was a Mason, a Shriner and a life long member of Wake Forest Baptist Church. Always an avid sportsman, he excelled in high school sports, spent 3 years playing baseball with the Special Forces of the U.S. Army. After his discharge, he was associated with the New York Yankees organization for a period of time. Mr. Munn later coached American Legion Ball in Raleigh for many years. In his quiet and gentle manner, he influenced the lives of many young men. Mr. Munn was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Narvell Munn. Mr. Munn is survived by his: Devoted wife: Doris McCarn Munn One son: Garth Munn and wife Barbara L. Munn 3 step grandchildren: Jessica, Stefan, and Victoria One brother: Mike Munn, his wife Ann, and their children Spencer, Lanier, Kathleen, and Huntley, of Durham, NC He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews Mr. Munn is also survived by, and was appreciative of, his family of devoted in-laws, Nancy Dinnin, Fairfax, VA, Jerry McCarn, Kennesaw, GA, and Richard McCarn, Sunset Beach, NC, and their familes. Also Malcolm McCarn and his family of Marietta, GA. A very special thank you to Dr. Charles Weckesser and his entire office staff for the care and compassion they have shown Melvin during his final illness. Funeral service 7 PM Saturday in the Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Smith of Raleigh, NC, officiating. Graveside service and entombment 10:30 AM Sunday in Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens, Pigeon Forge, TN. The family will receive friends 5:30 – 7:00 PM Saturday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
