James H. Hawkins

James H. Hawkins, age 70, of Sevierville, Tennessee died Saturday, October 16, 2004. Jim was a wonderful husband and friend for life, loving father, and devoted son-in-law. He retired from the U.S. Air Force, having served in Korea and Vietnam, and was a highly decorated veteran. Following his military career, he served as an International Security Specialist/ Director of Security Development and Programming with the Department of Defense, Materials Logistics Command (AFLC Headquarters) for a total of 43 years of combined service. He was also the recipient of the highest award granted to a civilian, the Humanitarian Award, presented by former president Ronald Reagan. Mr. Hawkins was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 453 in Knoxville, the Eastern Star and the British Legion. He was a professor of criminal justice, and an avid UT football fan. He was preceded in death by parents John Leslie and Ruth Hawkins, brothers Harold Hawkins(Merchant Marines) and Marvin Hawkins(U.S. Navy), and mother-in-law Doris Paynter, who lived in England. Survivors: Loving wife of 50 years: Sheila Hawkins Sons: Gary and Gregg Hawkins Sisters: Melba Bhak and Barbara Warner Numerous nieces and nephews Many beloved relatives and friends in England A Masonic service will be held at 6:45 PM Thursday with the funeral service to follow in the Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Kent Loveday officiating. Military graveside service and interment 11 AM Friday in Middle Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-6:45 PM Thursday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville, TN.
