Mattie B. (Bess) Whaley, age 80 of Knoxville, died Sunday, May 9, 2004. Survivors include: Son: Gary F. Whaley and wife Peggy Grandchildren: Melissa Kirk and husband Michael, Scott M. Whaley and wife Kari Great-grandchildren: Kaitlin and Kara Kirk Sisters: Justine Darby, Evelyn Taylor and husband Allen, Emma Lessie McCarter and husband Charles Brother: W.J. Darby Several nieces and nephews Funeral service 7 PM Tuesday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with scripture and prayer by Scott Whaley, and Rev. Scott Andrews officiating. Family and friends will meet 11 AM Wednesday in Grandview Cemetery, Maryville for interment. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Tuesday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
