Charlie W. Matthews (Papaw), age 66 of New Market, passed away Thursday, May 06, 2004 after a long battle with cancer. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Deep Springs Baptist Church. He was a retired employee after 26 years of service at Renfo’s Construction Company in Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Lou Nettie Matthews; sister Ethel Garrett; brothers Arlie, Lawson and Frank Matthews. Survivors: Wife of 46 years: Lillie Matthews Son: Larry Matthews, Dandridge Daughter and son-in-law: Nancy and Rusty Loveday, Lenoir City Godchild: Sylvia Matthews Step-grandchildren: Prenthia and Susie Loveday Sister: Bertha Tipton, Sevierville Brothers and sisters-in-law: Arnold Dee and Vinyard Matthews, Dandridge; Lon and Faye Matthews of Pigeon Forge Sisters-in-law: Bobbie Matthews, Anna Mae Matthews Several nieces and nephews, and many cousins Special friend: Bob Rogers Funeral service 2 PM Sunday in the Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Ben Knight and Rev. Len McElyea officiating. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-9 PM Saturday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. (www.atchleyfuneralhome.com)
