Eugene (Gene) Edwards

Edwards, Eugene (Gene), called ?Lum? Edwards by his fellow workers, went to be with the Lord Saturday, July 10, 2004. Gene was widely known and loved by a host of friends and family. His many deeds were quietly done. Under privileged boys were very important to him. Gene helped organize uniformed little league baseball for boys in Knoxville and managed teams for many years. He also was a high school football referee and loved to play golf. He was a Methodist and his belief and faith in God were staunch. Gene retired as Sales Manager from American Bakeries (Merita) after forty-one years of loyal service. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of seventy years, Ruby Ellen Edwards; brothers, Raymond, Herman, Lawrence and Charles. Son, Eugene Michael and his wife Bonnie, granddaughter, Eloise Poteat, and her husband Joe; grandson, Michael Edwards, Jr. and his wife Alysia; and four great-grand children, Isaac, Owen, Zachary, and Anikah,; sister Anna Scarbrough, and brother Herbert Edwards and wife Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service Monday, 12:00 Noon, Berry Funeral Home Chapel, Pastor David L. Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.
