Richard Braatz

Braatz, Richard Joseph, of Knoxville, died July 7, 2004. He was born October 29, 1924 in Toledo, Ohio. He belonged to Holy Ghost Catholic Church where he sang in the choir for about 45 years. He retired from ORNL after 35 years service and served in the Air Force during WWII. Dick loved classical and liturgical music but his true ?passion? was Notre Dame Football. Preceded in death by parents, Elmer and Laura Braatz; brothers, Louis M. Braatz,SJ, Bernard Braatz, and Harold Braatz; sisters, Frances Weiss and Irene Holt. Survivors include wife, Marian H. Braatz; son, David Braatz of Knoxville; step-son, Joseph R. Nelson; step-grandson, Patrick J. Nelson both of Montana; very special niece, Kathy Holt of Lambertville, Michigan; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Huey and Barbara Houser of Simpsonville, South Carolina; lots of nieces and nephews and his treasured pet, Tiny Pea. Funeral Mass 1:00 PM Saturday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church with Father Xavier Mankel officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations to Holy Ghost Catholic Church. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday with a Rosary Service at 8:00 PM at the Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 2300 W. Adair Dr. www.lynnhurstchapel.com
