John Samuel (Sam) Bruce

Bruce, John Samuel (Sam) ? age 65 of North Knoxville, passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2004 at Baptist Medical Center. Sam?s 65 years were filled with energy, faith and a deep love for his family and friends. He grew up in Boston, GA and has called Knoxville home for 36 years. Sam served in the Air Force and was stationed in Japan. He was a long time member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church. He was employed by National Waterworks (Davis Meter) for 40 years as a District Manager. Sam served as an Associate Member on the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Association of Utility Districts and was placed on their wall of fame. He loved the outdoors where he spent time hunting, fishing, golfing, camping and feeding his chipmunks. His favorite hobby, however, was aviation. He was an avid pilot who spent time hanging out at Island Home Airport. Sam?s greatest passion was for his wife, 2 children and their spouses and 4 grandchildren. His quick wit, smooth demeanor and South Georgia accent will be missed by all who knew and loved him. The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Lee and his staff at Baptist Hospital for the love and care of Sam. Preceded in death by parents, Walter and Mary Ruth Bruce. Survived by his best friend and wife, Janice Schneider Bruce; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Kristy Bruce; daughter and son-in-law, Jami and Brad Dye; grandchildren, Jake, Sam, Lauren and Hayden; brother and sister-in-law, Walt and Jill Bruce; sister, Jeanne Bradshaw; sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and Ed Jackson; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Marion Bruce; sister, Mary Burleson; brother and sister-in-law, Al and Linda Bruce; brother, Mike Bruce; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Johnny and Susie Schneider and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 27 from 5:00 to 7:30 PM at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church and a celebration of his life will follow with Rev. Doug White, Dr. Mike Boyd, and Rev. Kent Williams officiating. Family and friends will meet at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel Wednesday and proceed to the Mausoleum located next to the funeral home for an 11:00 AM Committal Service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wallace Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, 701 Merchants Drive, Knoxville, TN 37912 or the First Baptist Church of Boston, GA, 31626. Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 2300 W. Adair Drive, Knoxville, TN 37918, (865-689-8888) is serving the family.
