James Charles (JC) Spires

Spires, James Charles (J.C.), age 81, of South Knoxville, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2003 at his home. Mr. Spires operated several small businesses in the South Knoxville area. Enlisted in the U.S. Navy the day after the Pearl Harbor bombing and served in the Pacific Theater aboard the U.S.S. Vincennes, which received heavy fire and he survived 3 days in the water. Preceded in death by father, Charles P. Spires; mother, Catherine Johnson Spires; sister, Hurtage Spires Rollins; brother, Graham Rufus Spires. Wife, June Shular Spires; daughter, Jimmie K. Spires; nephew, Alex (Sonny) Rollins; several brothers-in-law and sister-in-law; nieces and nephews. A special thanks to the staff of U.T. Hospital and to U.T. Hospice. Graveside service 2:00 PM Sunday at Highland South Cemetery, Rev. Deron Cobb officiating. Full Military Honors will be conducted. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Saturday at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.
