Gerrit Joe Jager III

Jager, Gerrit Joe "Joey" III, age 70, of South Knoxville, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 15, 2003 at Hillcrest South Nursing Home. He was a member of Timothy Street Baptist Church. Retired from Knoxville Union Rescue Mission where he worked with his parents, Rev. Gerrit Joe Jager, Jr. and Mary, founders of the Mission. Joey was an honorary member of the Knoxville Fire Department. He was an artist and an avid amateur musician. Preceded in death by parents, Rev. Gerrit Joe Jager, Jr. and Mary. Step-mother, Gwen Jager of Knoxville; twin sister, Lucille Brott of Grand Rapids, MI; brother, Robert Jager of Cookeville; and a host of relatives and friends. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hillcrest South Nursing Home for their tender love and care for Joey. Funeral service 1:00 PM Wednesday, Berry Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Gibbs Hammond, retired Knoxville Fire Department Chaplain officiating. Interment will follow at Lynnhurst Cemetery. Active and honorary pallbearers will be active and retired members of the Knoxville Fire Department. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Knoxville Firefighters Association Benevolence Fund, 3805 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Knoxville, TN 37914. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM Wednesday at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.
