Carol Jane Whitehouse

Carol Jane Whitehouse went to be with her Lord on Saturday, August 9, 2003 at the age of 86. She passed away at Asbury Place in Maryville, TN. Carol and her late husband Edwin G. Whitehouse belonged to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Mrs. Whitehouse was born in Fond du Lac, WI on October 21, 1916. She attended Lawrence College in Appleton WI, and then continued her education at Cornell College in Mt Vernon, IA graduating in 1938. She taught Home Economics spending three years in Santiago, Chili. After returning from Chili, Carol joined the Candlish Funeral Home in Fond du Lac, WI, a third generation family business. She was active in the Division Street Methodist Church and the Eastern Star. She helped develop Galloway House when the Galloway Family gave the property to the Fond du Lac Historical Society in 1955. It has become an entire village of over 20 buildings, including a toy shop which Carol and her first husband Bill Sanders filled with antique toys they gathered in their travels. Carol moved to Sevierville after her marriage to Edwin Whitehouse of Sevierville. She was active here with Ramsey House. She was Vice President for several years developing period costumes for the docents of Ramsey House, and developing tours for the school children of the area. Carol was also on the state board for the Association for Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities and was honored with the Covenant Award in Knoxville in August 2000. She was preceded in death by her Father, Frank D. Candlish, Mother, Jane Hendry Candlish, Step-mother, Wava Candlish, Brother, Bob Candlish and Husbands, Bill Sanders, Alfred Buerosse, Edwin G. Whitehouse, and son Ronald E. Whitehouse. She is survived by daughter Sue (Keith) Gardner; daughter-in-law, Arlene M. Whitehouse, sister-in-law Dorothy Candlish, grandson Edwin (Phyllis) Whitehouse, granddaughters, Linda (Tom) Voll, Rhonda Whitehouse, Debra Whitehouse, Amy Zickefoose, Special friend Betty Hoskins and eight great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ramsey House Plantation, 2614 Thorngrove Pike, Knoxville, TN 37914 or Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Sevierville. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Monday with funeral service to follow at 7 PM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. Rev.
