Mattie Mai Carr

Mattie Mai Carr, age 91 of Sevierville, TN died peacefully Tuesday, October 1, 2002, after a lengthy illness. A longtime Sevier County resident, she was born Mattie Mai Byrne in the Middle Tennessee Granville Community on July 7, 1911. She was married to the late Joe Franklin Carr of Hartsville, Tennessee, for 67 years. Together they were prominent in the Sevierville business community forming Carr Dry Goods. In addition to helping with the store and several of their hotels, Mrs. Carr was a school teacher in the Underwood and Sevierville communities. Mrs. Carr was one of the founders of Sevierville Church of Christ, of which she remained a faithful member. Besides contributions to her community, she was a most gracious lady and devoted to her family of which she was most proud. Survivors: Daughter: Mary Kay Carr Pruitt, Nashville, TN Granddaughter: Penny Paulette and Ronnie Flippo, Columbia, TN Great granddaughter: Kaitlin Michelle Flippo, Columbia, TN Brothers and Sisters-in-law: John and Marianne Byrne, Hendersonville, TN; Herman and Ruth Byrne, Sevierville, TN Many nieces and nephews Funeral service 11 AM Friday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home. Brother John Daniels will officiate. Interment will follow in Middle Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Thursday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville, TN.
