Doris Whitney Still

Still, Doris Whitney, age 89, of South Knoxville died January 8, 2002 at home. Member of Vestal United Methodist Church where she was a church school teacher and formerly children's division superintendent for seventeen years. She retired from teaching in the Knoxville City Schools. She began teaching in public one room rural elementary schools in Phillips County, Kansas. She taught two years in Luray High School and four years in Louisiana State University, Natchitoches, LA. Upon retirement, she worked as a volunteer at East Tennessee Baptist Hospital for many years. She enjoyed family camping for relaxation. She and her husband raised their grandson, Jacob Breeding from four years. Preceded in death by husband, Wallace B. Still; parents, Oliver and Lola Whitney; brothers, Don O. Whitney, D.V.M. and Charles Whitney; sister, Christine Whitney; and daughter, Amy Still Breeding. Daughter, Wanda Ford and husband, Jim Ford; brother, Wayne Whitney of Phillipsburg, KS; sister, Edith Whitney Early of Pleasant Hill, TN; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral service Thursday 8:00 PM, Berry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Wilson officiating. Interment Friday 11:00 AM, Highland Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vestal United Methodist Church. Family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.
