Padgett, Abraham Jasper, "Abe, A.J.", age 67, of South Knoxville, went home to be with the Lord, March 15, 2001. He was an active and faithful member of Gospel Baptist Church, where he was the Sunday school superintendent and Sunday school teacher and a very active board member. He worked for Tucker Steel many years and later retired from security. Preceded in death by mother, Edith Padgett Spence; daughter, Deborah Padgett Jones; brothers, Jim and Charles Padgett. Survivors:Loving wife of 49 years, Gwendolyn Beeler Padgett; son, Dennis Padgett and wife, Margaret, South Knoxville; step grandchildren, Alicia and Daniel; sister, Frankie Harris, Blue Ridge, GA; brothers, Coleman Padgett and wife, Nell, Copperhill, TN, Gerald Padgett and wife, Delores, Louisville, TN; sister-in-law, Mary Padgett, Ducktown, TN, sister-in-law, Marina Kirkland and husband, Earl; brother-in-law, Sam Beeler and wife Edith; several nieces, nephews, cousins and all friends at the church. Funeral services 2 p.m. Saturday at Berry Chapel with Rev. I.A. Sparks and Rev. Buster "Bill" Parton officiating. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
