Etson F. Hitchcock

HITCHCOCK, ETSON FRANK, 85, of Knoxville, died July 25, 2001, of heart failure. Born in North Creek, N.Y. on July 12, 1916, he was the only child of the late Earl Schroeder and Ina Elizabeth Hitchcock. He married Iva Dee Calhoun on September 2, 1939 in Washington, D.C., and spent the next 62 years devoted to loving and providing for her and their three children. He was a WWll veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a Commissioner of Mediation with the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service for 36 years. He negotiated the initial labor contracts for the Atomic Energy Commission plants in Oak Ridge, among others. After retiring from government service, he was a labor arbitrator for 10 years. He was a member of First Christian Church of Knoxville. Survivors are his wife, Iva; son, Laurence Etson Hitchcock and wife Juan Hartley Hitchcock of Reynolds,Ga.; daughters, Karen Michele Hitchcock of Atlanta, Ga., Patricia H. O’Connor and husband William J. O’Connor, M.D., of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandchildren, Randall E. Hitchcock of Fletcher, N.C., Rachel H. Greene of Belmont, N.C., Robbe B. Greene of Murfreesboro, Tn.; cousins, Mary Beakbane of Glens Falls, N.Y. Fred and Rita Stewart of Bakers Mills, NY; brother-in-law, Gale Porter Calhoun of Searcy, Ark.; sister-in-law, Ramah C. Lindsey of Atlanta; several nieces and nephews. Graveside service 10:00 A.M. Saturday in Lynnhurst Cemetery with Rev. John Moore officiating. Memorials may be to First Christian Church.
