Mary Butler Henry

Mary Butler Henry, age 100 a native of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee died Wednesday, December 19, 2001. She attended the First United Methodist Church in Pigeon Forge from the age of two years becoming a member of the church in 1914. She also served as pianist and organist for fifty-four years. The Sunday school class, women’s missionary circle, and worship service were the focal points of her life. She graduated Tennessee Wesleyan College, obtaining a certificate in piano from the University of Chattanooga. Teaching piano to Sevier County students for many years was a source of joy for her. Mary Henry was the oldest active member of the American Legion Auxiliary. For her seventy-two years of service she was honored at a special ceremony at the Legion in August. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Henry; son Samuel E. Henry; son-in-law, Roger R. Gill; parents Ashley and Kate Butler; brothers, Shirley Butler, Dave Butler, and Henry Butler; sisters, Myrtle Householder, Mattie Belle Householder, Lela Roth, Juanita Butler and Florita McMahan. Survivors: Daughter: Kay Henry Gill Son and Daughter-in-law: Jack Baker and Nancy Hayes Henry Daughter-in-law: Margaret Henry Webb Grandchildren: Jack Baker Henry, Jr. David Hayes Henry and wife Cindy Henry Mary Ellen Henry and husband Jack Paul Showers Page Henry Jackson and husband James Jackson Ashley Gray Henry Campbell Henry-Webb John Richmond Webb Stanley Webb and wife Geri Webb Great Grandchildren: Taylor Hayes Henry Mary Chase Henry Samuel Atkins Webb Stanley Calhoun Webb Several nieces and nephews Special Friends: Simmie and Joy Cameron Dottie Nichols Funeral service 7 PM Friday at First United Methodist Church, Pigeon Forge with Dr. Michael Johnson officiating. Interment 11 AM Saturday in Pigeon Forge (Methodist) Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Friday at First United Methodist Church, Pigeon Forge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: First United Methodist Church—229 River Road—Pigeon Forge, Tennessee 37863. Arrangements by Atchley’s Smoky Mountain Chapel, Pigeon Forge.
