Lucy Lucado Akin

Akin, Lucy Lucado, age 90, of Knoxville, wife of Eli Conley Akin, passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2000 at 2:30 AM. She was born to her parents, John T. and Lucy S. Lucado on July 21, 1910, in Atoka, Tennessee. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Tennessee Association of the Deaf, and National Association of the Deaf. She was an alumna of the Tennessee School for the Deaf and Gallaudet University. She retired in 1976 (after teaching 38 years at the TSD.) She started employment at TSD in 1936 as a sewing instructor and dormitory counselor of girls and served as assistant librarian until 1940. She was re-employed at TSD in 1942 as an academic teacher and remained in this position until her retirement in 1976. The 1976 Viking yearbook was dedicated to Lucy and Conley Akin. Preceded in death by her husband, Eli Conley Akin; parents, John T. and Lucy Simonton Lucado, sisters; Ida May Armstrong and Dorris Lesniak; Lucado brothers, Prentis, William and John. Sister: Ann Black, of Memphis, TN Funeral service 7:30 PM Thursday, Berry Chapel. Interment: 10:00 AM Friday at Woodlawn Cemetery. Rev. Jerry Seale officiating.
