Seymour business owners are in the process of revamping a local association.
Three local business owners, including owner of Salon 101 Veronica Sharp and her mother Al Baker, are working to restore Seymour’s Business Association.
The former association known as South Knox/Seymour Business and Professional Association, and the restored group will now be called the Seymour/South Knox Business Association.
Baker was on the previous association for roughly 15 years, and she said they achieved a lot of good things, but it fell apart toward the end.
“At the end we got some people that weren’t willing to work and the president didn’t want what the other members wanted,” Baker said. “So they just decided to do away with the association and go into the Chamber of Commerce.”
Before it disbanded, the previous association had nearly 70 members, according to Baker, and she and her daughter have high hopes for the new association.
“I’ve been talking with several business owners and they all think it’s a great idea and they all wanted to know when and where will the first meeting be,” stated Baker.
“I think that the Seymour Business Association could be a building block to possibly set a stage for a new updated look for the community,” Sharp said. “I think together we can create just about anything.
“I think now is the time for business owners to work harder and give customers a meaningful experience when they walk in the door.”
The association is asking former and new members to become involved in the group which will have a $50 membership fee, monthly meetings and a Web site.
Links for each business will be available on the Web site and the domain name has yet to be announced.
The first meeting will be at noon March 30 at Connie’s Kitchen on Chapman Hwy.
Seymour/South Knox Business Association’s purpose is to increase awareness of local services by having business owners support other local businesses and recommend their services.
“We can also help wherever help is needed in the community as well,” Sharp said. “If you have togetherness you can achieve great things.”
