East Tennessee Public Television (ETPtv) is launching the PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest, a competition designed to promote the advancement of children’s reading skills through hands-on, active learning.
Students in kindergarten through third grade may submit original stories with illustrations by Friday, April 2 to enter.
“Kids naturally have incredible imaginations and a keen sense of curiosity,” said Frank Miller, Assistant General Manager at ETPtv. “The PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest provides a safe virtual community forum for children to express their ideas while fostering key early literacy skills such as story-telling.”
The original story can be fictional or fact, prose or poetry. It must include an illustration such as a drawing, photo, 3-D art or collage. The story will be judged on originality, creative expression, storytelling and integration of text and illustrations.
Visit www.ETPtv.org for a complete list of contest rules, to download the entry form and for the full list of prizes. Entry forms are also available at Knox County Public Libraries.
Entry forms should be sent to: Frank Miller, East Tennessee Public Television, 1611 E. Magnolia Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37917.
First place local winners will be entered in the national level of the contest where a renowned panel of judges will identify the national winners. Winners will be announced and national prizes, including laptops, digital cameras and MP3 players will be awarded in summer 2010.
