The Mid-South Carpenters Regional Council has been protesting in front of a job site across from Walmart on Chapman Hwy.
Mid-South Carpenters Regional Council has a labor dispute with Proffitt & Sons which is a subcontractor currently working on a Johnson & Galyon jobsite.
It is the council’s claim that Proffitt & Sons does not meet area labor standards, including providing or fully paying for family healthcare for all its carpenter craft employees.
The Mid-South Carpenters Region Council said it “objects to substandard wage employers like Proffitt & Sons working in their community.”
It is in the council’s opinion that the, “community ends up paying the tab for employee health care and low wages tend to lower general community standards, thereby encouraging crime and other social ills.”
The council also said it “believes that Johnson & Gaylon has an obligation to the community to see that area labor standards are met for construction work performed on their jobs. “
