Volunteers and VIPs alike made the recent “Mike Hamilton’s ‘Host of Volunteers’ Golf Tournament” a success benefiting the homeless and near homeless of Sevier County.

The Smoky Mountain Area Rescue Ministries event was held on April 16 at Eagle's Landing Golf Course. Hitting the links were University of Tennessee Athletic Director Mike Hamilton, former UT football star Condredge Holloway, and several staff members from the UT Athletic Department.

Fifteen teams played for prizes that were given out at each hole.  Everyone also participated in a putting contest.

The winners of the first flight were Ben Scott, Bobby Jenkins,

Kermit McPeek and Jonathan Chapman. The winners of the second flight were Chuck Sexton, Greg Bridges and Jay Adams.

There was also a hole-in-one contest for a new GMC Acadia but no one  claimed that elusive prize.

Many volunteers helped with registration, logistics and golf course refreshments. A wonderful barbeque lunch was also provided by Damon's.

In addition to raising money for the local homeless, SMARM also received several items autographed by Holloway, UT Head Football Coach Phillip Fulmer and UT Head Men’s Basketball Coach Bruce Pearl to be auctioned off at next year’s banquet.

“This year’s Tournament was timely because of the increasing financial needs we have brought to us each day.  Shelter and rent assistance requests have increased, as well as many folks still experiencing higher utility bills.  The work season seems to be starting later this year, and higher food and fuel prices only add to the burden our working poor face daily.  The financial boost of funds from this event is an answer to prayer”, states Dick Wellons, Director of SMARM.
