A new newspaper has been printed and is being distributed in Wears Valley this week. Volume One Issue 1 of the 24 page newspaper was printed Tuesday.

Garrett Williams, a Wears Valley resident and an associate wanted to start up a newspaper to bring awareness to their tubing business. So they decided to print a newspaper.

Along the way, the associate lost interest which left Williams to do it all. Design it, write it, sell it, arrange to get it printed and finally to distribute it.

Williams writes in his first ever editorial, “When I first took on this newspaper project, I wrote an editorial. I mean, this was one fine piece of writing. Small town traditions were mentioned. Duties and obligations, a need to Get The News Out! While all worthy ideas, they came from someone who was ignorant. Ignorant of journalism, mainly ignorant of the troubles and commitment that it actually takes.”

“As a brand new paper, we lack many of the local news resources or ‘contacts’,” stated Williams in his editorial.

It was his way of saying that if you have any news, he wants to know about it, no matter how big or small.

The Valley Voice, as it was named, was created to be a weekly paper. However, he says for the first few issues, it will be bi-weekly.

“I was happy to see an entrepreneur actually complete his first issue,” Stated Joe Karl, publisher of the Seymour Herald. “Many talk about starting their own newspaper, but once they start, the magnitude of the project overwhelms most.”

The Valley Voice strives to be a community paper in every sense of the word.  It should be available at most location in Weirs Valley right now. The price is 50 ¢ but Williams says he’ll give away the first couple issues.\
