April 27 – May 3 is National Volunteer Week which reflects the power that volunteers have to “inspire by example” — volunteers both encourage those they help and motivate others to serve! Monday, April 21 Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters issued a Proclamation honoring the Volunteers at their awards banquet.

Lela Hill was one of the many volunteers recognized at the event. During her 21 years of volunteer service at the medical center, Hill has contributed more than 20,000 hours. Although she resides in Jefferson County, Hill volunteers one day a week a Nursing Home, and another day at the Volunteer Thrift Store.

Ms. Hill states, “my time spent with the nursing home residents during the weekly Bible study class, as well as the fellowship with my fellow hospital volunteers is the most rewarding part of the ‘job’ for me. I’m also very excited about the new hospital we’re building and being able to work closely with the Volunteers to fund their pledge of $250,000 to the facility.”
