A car ran off a steep embankment Thursday afternoon seriously injuring the sole female occupant of the vehicle.
The driver was in the wreck for five hours before being discovered.
The Seymour Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to 1410 Deer Trail Way on a motor vehicle accident involving a vehicle that was reported to have gone down an embankment around the property owner's driveway.
Upon arrival, SVFD found a 1995 Pontiac Vibe down a 60 foot embankment on a 70 degree incline.
The vehicle had major frontal damage and the airbag had deployed. It is unknown if the driver was wearing her seatbelt.
SVFD Service #1's crew descended the embankment, stabilized and removed the un-named female driver from the vehicle and secured her to a stokes basket.
Squad 18's winch was used to hoist the injured driver up the embankment.
The driver was treated By SVFD fire fighters along with Sevier Co Ambulance #1's crew and transported to a Landing Zone located at Shiloh Church Rd. and Happy Creek Rd.
The driver was flown by LifeStar to UTMC were she is listed in serious condition. The car had been down the embankment for five hours before being discovered. The driver was found by her husband who called for help.
SVFD Firefighters of Squad 3, Squad 18 and Squad 5 responded.
Sevier Co. Ambulance #1 responded along with Sevier Co. Rescue Squad and Heavy Rescue 1.
