The Tennessee Fire Service and Codes Enforcement Academy will graduate its largest class in history. State Fire Marshal and Commerce and Insurance Commissioner Leslie A. Newman will deliver the commencement address to the class of 25 recruit firefighters Friday, August 31, 2007 at 9:00 AM.
Located on 330 acres in northern Bedford County, this state-of-the-art training facility has been a "home away from home" for the recruits during this 8 week class.
Recruits endured blistering heat while performing a variety of training exercises. From victim rescue, to hazardous fuel spills and a live fire, recruits are presented with a variety of life and death scenarios. Unique to this class, are four students who have no affiliation with a fire department, but a strong drive to become a firefighter.
"This premier facility prepares first responders using ‘live' simulations. This approach primes recruits, presenting situations they will commonly face as firefighters. The academy's reputation for providing exceptional training and customer service directly correlates to the increasing number of graduates. I am proud of this facility and I am especially proud to share in their accomplishments by delivering the commencement address", said Commissioner Newman.
The Tennessee Fire Service and Codes Enforcement Academy offers a unique dual curriculum. The Academy provides nearly 500 courses to fire departments, codes professionals and other law enforcement agencies throughout the state.
