Most stories of Thanksgiving history start with the harvest celebration of the pilgrims and the Indians that took place in the autumn of 1621.
Although they did have a three-day feast in celebration of a good harvest, and the local Indians did participate, this "first Thanksgiving" was not a holiday, simply a gathering.
There is little evidence that this feast of thanks led directly to our modern Thanksgiving Day holiday.
Thanksgiving can, however, be traced back to 1863 when President Lincoln became the first president to proclaim Thanksgiving Day. The holiday has been a fixture of late November ever since.
We at the Seymour Herald would like to give thanks for the past wonderful year. There is so much to be thankful for.
In accordance with the tradition of giving thanks, we will be closed this Thursday and Friday to give our staff an opportunity to be with their families and friends.

It could be looked at as the day we first welcomed illegal immigrants. haha
I can rest easy now, knowing that the Seymour Herald Staff will be home with their family for the holiday. If this article hadn't been in here, I would have gone crazy wondering where they were seeing as how I sit outside of their offices all the time watching them. Thanks Seymour Herald, for letting me know rather than for throwing my Thanksgiving out of whack.
Thanksgiving Day in the U.S.A, is the one day we all come together and celebrate as one! (The best country in this world. )
