The co-owner of a Tazewell Healthcare Clinic has been convicted of one count of Obstruction of a Criminal Investigation and four counts of Healthcare fraud in conjunction with an investigation conducted by the TBI's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
Nurse Practitioner, LaWanna Brock, was convicted in U.S. District Court last week. She is accused of billing Medicare, TennCare and Blue Cross/Blue Shield for services that were rendered to uninsured patients. Investigators believe she was using the information of insured individuals to fraudulently bill those healthcare programs. Brock is also accused of burning records that were requested by TBI during the course of the investigation. Brock is scheduled to be sentenced in September.
