The Seymour Citizens are having a follow up meeting to their May 6th meeting with the Seymour commissioners.

The Commissioners have signed an agreement to let a 5 member Optimist Club develop 14 acres of land in a residential area for the purpose of a sports complex. The Knob Creek Community Association will be formed and commissioners and the Mayor of Sevier County will be questioned regarding their follow up to the May 6th meeting.
The group has sent an invitation to the commissioners Judy Godfrey and Buster Norton along with Mayor Larry Waters to attend the meeting.

At the May 6th meeting, nearly 100 people became very vocal when the commissioners made statements contrary to the facts, according to attendees.

A notice also was dispatched to the community requesting their attendance.

Topics of discussion are:

What has been done on our behalf?

How to insure that it is a community park and not a sports complex.

To decide on forming the Knob Creek Community Association.

The group is going legal as they will also form a legal entity with which they can have one group representing them.

According to a source, one of the affected sub-divisions has voted to raise funds to finance a legal action if it becomes necessary.
The meeting will be held at 6:30pm on Thursday May 24th at the First Baptist Church in Seymour. The meeting will begin promptly at 6:30pm.

Why can't we ever get this many people together to work for a positive cause??? It's a park for kid's! I think it's a great idea.. Seymour residents shame on you!!!!

Why are you so concerned about this situation at K. Creek. You were not the least bit concerned about the Cherokee Hills residents when we did not want your business park!! Are you out to get the commissioners and Gary Rader like you were Marty?

Find out the facts before you start pointing fingers at the residents. Most of the residents in that area DO want a COMMUNITY PARK at that location. Most are against a privately run, gated SPORTS COMPLEX that the kids wont be able to use unless the Optimist approve it. Come to the meeting and listen to what is being proposed. A COMMUNITY PARK that all of Seymour can enjoy, whenever they want. A place for the KIDS, any and all kids, not just the kids that play baseball/sports. That is the GREAT IDEA... not the sports complex!
Shame on you!

If Seymour Optimist does not run it then who will?? The county won't, period. So you have to have a group to run a park. You will have to follow their rules. Rules are good. We don't need a park open late at night anyway.

Come to the meetings. There are discussions to organized a group just to help take care of the park. Friend's of Knob Creek or something like it. Care to join and actually help the Community, not just ball players?

#6 disgusted commented, on May 24, 2007 at 3:25 p.m.:

We are NOT against a park for the kids! We are against a Sport Complex for Gary Rader and his pals. Come on!!! Get the facts and stop being ignorant! How dare you put your comments at the top of this page to make us look bad! I bet I know who you are. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure that out. Hey, you're going to get sued, get out before it starts costing you money......
We don't want the ballfield!!!! AND WE ARE WILLING TO FIGHT TO STOP IT!!!

i Like a sports complex if incorperates all sports if ran appropriately with a playground and walking track as well. But your right we don't need a park open 24\7 it needs to be ran properly.

How many members does this optimist club have on its roles? Why are there TWO optimist clubs in Seymour?

#9 Frustrated commented, on May 25, 2007 at 1:19 p.m.:

This is posted on the Moutain Press Website today. A quote from our fine commissioner Judy Godfrey:

"Commissioner Judy Godfrey, who lives in Seymour and attended the last session, said after the meeting she understands the park will be used only as a practice area and likely not have lights.

Patrick Doyle, who has helped organize the sessions, said Godfrey's statements to The Mountain Press contradict some she made in a previous meeting.

Doyle argues there was a lengthy discussion about the cost of lighting the field. Godfrey said the discussion was meant to show that lighting the field would be too expensive"

Does anyone else feel it is disingenuous for Ms. Godfrey to relay wrong information to the public like that? I've been at all the meetings and IT IS the intention of the Optimist club to have lights. They even know the brand name of the lights they intend to use. I just don't understand how Ms. Godfrey can sleep at night, giving out wrong information and misleading the public like that!

There WILL BE a ballpark on this land for the children of Seymour. How much of a Scrooge do you have to be to oppose a place for the children of Seymour to play sports? It is a shame that our children have to cross into Knox County to play.

#11 Seems to me that... commented, on June 1, 2007 at 11:01 p.m.:

....seymour stretches across three counties...including Knox.

#12 to #10 commented, on June 6, 2007 at 8:38 a.m.:

There already is a ballpark on that property and the children have every right to play on it as they wish. As a matter of fact, a girls softball team plays on that field about 1x a week. You're missing the point, yet again! It a private, gated sports complex that is not wanted.

#13 #11 commented, on June 8, 2007 at 11:05 p.m.:

Seymour does not stretch into 3 counties only two Sevier and Blount. Knox Co is not part of Seymour! I have lived here all my 60 years.

#14 To #12 commented, on June 8, 2007 at 11:09 p.m.:

Nothing in the tapes or typed words that the Optimist have offered have ever stated it was a private gated sports complex. It will be gated it needs to be to keep out people after dark. From what I see and read they are doing that for your community. I listened to the tapes they welcome the community there but to protect your property and to keep riff raff out at dark they are gating it. Can you show me in print or tell me on the tapes where they stated it would be private and gated to keep you out????????? They also have plans for walking track, picnic area, playgrounds.... Sounds like more than just a sports complex to me.

The Optimist themselves told us at the first meeting it was to be a gated complex. Were you there?
