District Attorney General Jimmy Dunn announced that on May 21, 2007 agents of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation served a search warrant on The Sportsman's Club a/k/a/ The Sportsman's Cafe located at 571 West Broadway in Newport, Tenn.
They were assisted by officers of the Tenn. Highway Patrol, Newport Police Department and Investigators from the District Attorney General's Office.
Agents seized illegal liquor, gambling paraphernalia, firearms, and a quantity of cash. Approximately 50 people were present at the location. The investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
