Couty Mayor Larry Waters, District Attorney General James B. Dunn are just a few of the planned attendees to be at Memorial Day Ceremony to take place at Sevier County Court House on Monday, May 28, 2007, 11:00 a.m.
County Mayor Larry Waters will open the ceremony and District Attorney General James "Jimmy" Dunn will be guest speaker. General Dunn served in the Army 1966 to 1968 as a Military Policeman and served overseas in Germany. The Honorable Judge Richard R. "Dick" Vance will pay tribute to the memory of Sevier County's deceased veterans. Judge Vance served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 to 1971 and served overseas in Korea, Judge Vance is a member of American Legion Post 104 in Sevierville.
American Post 202 in Gatlinburg, commanded by Ed Welsh will pay honor to POW/MIA soliders. Disabled American Veterans Chapter 94 commanded Walter Minton will do the invocation. The Marine Corps League Detachment 1206 commanded by Rick Leone located on Wears Valley Rd. will post the colors. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10025 of Seymour commanded by Bill Voight will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. American Legion Post 104 commanded by Frank Ham will provide the Honor Guard and Fire the Salute. Mandy Sandlin will sing the National Anthem and special music by Marty Hammontree and the Dueling trumphets: Angela Brown, Cindy Bynum, Marty Hammontree, Joel Ogle, Joe Ohman, Mark Robertson, Andrew Temple, and Josh Williams. WWII Veteran John Grimm, Past Commander of American Legion Post 104 and long time participant in Veterans Activities and his wife Eva will honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice by placing the wreath in their honor. Fly over by the War Birds of America will add excitement and pagentry to the ceremony. Everyone is invited to attend and pay tribute to those who served their counrty in the Armed Forces of America. Plenty of seating will be available in front of the courthouse in Sevierville.
