At about 6:15 P.M. Monday evening a 1994 Pontiac Sunbird ran off Chapman Highway and rolled over several times seriously injuring a female driver.

Rea Brown, 46 of Sevierville, driver of the Sundbird, sustained serious injuries in the one car crash near Rogers Road off of Chapman Highway.

It appears that Brown, for unknown reasons, ran off the road without any visible skid marks.

Chapman Highway was closed for a period of time to allow Lifestar to pick Brown up and take her to the hospital.

Chapman Hwy claims another victim. Some day these Good Ole Boys will figure this one out too. Boys you need a center divider down the middle of the road and off ramps. It is really not all that complicated fellers, really.

You need none of that. What you need is for people to slow down. Look at the number of wrecks on that road. The overwhelming majority of them are caused by people speeding.
The government can't outlaw stupid drivers unfortunately.

Those are the first two cops I have seen on Chapman Hwy in a long time. Lord knows the sheriff department won't pull anyone over. Maybe the 3 Hwy Patrol we have assigned to the entire Sevier County region, will do something.

Dear Mr Fact CHecker, you point is well taken. We can't seem to get away from stupid politicians either it seems!Like I always say, we just seem to stay STUCK ON STUPID!

One thing I think would help is if obtaintaing a drivers license was more detailed than the current mandates.Seymour isn't the only locale in East Tn with a busy highway running thru a business district.

I hate to speculate on the wreck mentioned in this story, but I have to wonder if the driver was preoccupied with a cell phone. There is no shortage of people driving with a cell phone glued to their head.I find it very distracting to carry on a cell phone conversation and drive.

Another angle to this is it seems when people get in their vehicles, they have entered their own little orbit, they have paid their money and that road is solely theirs. We need to realize the roads we pay to use are there for everyone.

It's almost humorous to watch the tailgaters, frequent lane changers and the people seeing who gets to the next stop light first,go thru the frustration of being no farther ahead than if they just went with the flow of traffic.

Excessive speed is certainly a problem, but vehicles are so common place that the drivers of those vehicles seem to forget that they are in control of a piece of machinery that has the potential to kill them and others if used in a reckless manner.I doubt many of us would behave face to face the way so many of us behave when we are behind the wheel of our vehicles.

#6 Consider this: commented, on June 24, 2007 at 4:55 p.m.:

Maybe what we need is:

1) for there to be signals active in more locations down Chapman highway

2) reduce the current speed from 45 to 40 mph.

3) incorporate Seymour so the community can have our own Police force and heavily enforce the rules of the road in the Seymour area.

4) until #3 becomes reality, demand more aggressive enforcement on Chapman Highway through the Seymour Community.

#7 I Don't Understand People Like You commented, on June 25, 2007 at 12:18 p.m.:

Seymour is NOT going to be incorporated anytime in the foreseeable future. There are too many people already sick of paying the amount of taxes we pay. We are not going to voluntarily pay more!

I'm Firefighter/Paramedic that has been responding to auto accidents on Chapman Hwy for 16 years, I would like to say that I Have never seen an accdient on Chapman Hwy or any other state or county roadway that has been the roadways fault. Every accident I have ever responded to has been caused by driver error, vehicle mechanical error, an animal inthe roadway, or a medical emergency. If we want to reduce the number of accidents any where it starts with driving responsibley. I have lost close friends and relatives in auto accidents and I don't blame a piece of asphalt. Please be responsible and wear your seat belt. Be safe and God Bless!!!
