Saturday, July 28, 2007 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., marks the second annual Give a Kid a Chance back-to-school program for single parent families at New Hope Church.
The fastest growing demographic group in America is single parents.
Give A Kid A Chance is a community enrichment effort that has been in existence for eight years and has helped single parents in Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas and Ohio.
Separate rooms are designed to meet specific needs of a single parent family as they prepare their children to start the new school year. In one room, there is brand new clothing. In the next room are new book bags packed with school supplies. Then from room to room, the children will receive haircuts, dental exams, and medical exams (based on volunteer support). Our goal is to provide the necessary and costly needs these families encounter as they prepare to send their kids back to school. While the family circulates to various rooms, there are mechanics in the parking lot that change oil and complete light maintenance on the single parent's vehicle.
This year, there are 225 children pre-registered, 80 single parent moms and 12 single parent dads. (Last year we served 115 children, 54 single parent moms and 7 single parent dads.)
