It’s official. Shoney’s has cancelled their plans to open a restaurant in Seymour.
“It’s unfortunate, but we were told the bank had decided not to support the plan,” Tony Wright, Pastor of Faith in the Word, told The Herald. The contracts that were signed last year have become null and void.
Bill Baugh, president of Shoney’s was unavailable for comment. Annie Lalonde, marketing director for the company did respond and stated, “We have absolutely no comment.”
The earthwork that has already been accomplished will not have been performed in vain.
Several people have contacted Faith in the Word about leasing the land.
“We have been contacted by a couple of restaurants, a strip mall, and even different retail locations making us offers that want that location,” state Wright.
As of right now, Wright and the Church are not certain which direction they are going.
“Deciding which is best for the community and our church will take time, but in either case, we have improved the property. It really is a shame Shoney’s didn’t happen because I know the community would have supported a Shoney’s,” stated Wright.
